13 losses in a row, team spirit shaken
A 13-game losing streak. Even the content wasn't good.
The Pepper Savings Bank AI Peppers lost their Dodram 2023-2024 V-League Women's Fourth Round match against GS Caltex 0-3 (11-25, 17-25, 21-25) at Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul on February 2.
The bottom-ranked AI Peppers fell to their 13th straight loss and dropped to 18 losses (2-7) on the season.
The defense was shaky, and the offense was even worse. Yasmin led the way with 18 points (58.62% offensive success rate), while Park Jung-ah and Park Eun-seo combined for 14 points. AI Peppers' team offensive success rate was 36.78% on the day.
The team struggled with shaky reception from the first set and failed to create any breakthrough points in the second set.
In the third set, Yasmin and Park Eun-seo made it a close game, but at 23-21, Park's quick open attack was intercepted by Jung Dae-young, and they lost the match without winning a set.
After the match, AI Peppers head coach Joe Trinzi said, "We need to play as a team and work hard as a team, and we lacked that. We weren't organized in our offense, and we were getting balls that we couldn't hit. There were times when we couldn't hit the ball and had to pass it over."
On the long losing streak, Trinzi said, "The players have to work hard because when the coach tells them to do something, they have to execute it. It's not about solving a big problem at once, it's about making small changes one by one. In the beginning, we were under a lot of pressure to get the offense going at once, and I think it affected us when we made mistakes on the court. It's important to have longer stretches of good play."
"First and foremost, we need to get our teamwork and cohesion back. The technical stuff will come with better teamwork, and we need to get that in place."
